- Who can I speak with for additional information?
1. I need to obtain Math 11. Is there a course I can take to refresh my Math skills? Yes. Courses
Math0750 and Math0751
are recommended as Math 11 prep courses.
2. Will my marks from the two half-courses be averaged to obtain one final mark for Math 11 (or Math 12)?
No. Each half-course will have a separate grade on your transcript.
It is the discretion of the receiving department/institution to evaluate your average.
3. I completed Math 10 a couple years ago. Can I register for Math 11?
You will need to either take an
assessment test or consult with the
Math Department Head for proper
course placement.
4. Are the Math courses at VCC provincially articulated and accepted by
other schools?
Yes.
5. What if the class I want is full?
You can still get permission to register
with a WL (Waiting List) status. If there is available space during the first three days
of instruction, your status will change to RE (Registered Status) status. If there is no space
you will need to register for the following term the course is offered.
6. What happens if I am unable to continue with the course?
You will need to officially withdraw from the course. If you decide to take the course at a later term, you will
need to register for the course again.
7. If I obtain a low mark or don't pass one-half course, can I repeat it again?
Yes. Your final transcript will show all your marks everytime you have taken the course.
8.
What support can I expect for my courses?
In addition to regular class hours, you can attend the numerous seminars throughout the day to get extra help. You may attend any math instructor's seminar. In addition, you can get free tutorial help from the Learning Centre.
9. I've already taken Math 12, but I graduated more than 4 years ago and have forgotten some of the material. Should I register for Math 12 again, or do I need to take Math 11 and start all over again?
It would be best to take the VCC Math Assessment Test for proper course placement. If you have taken other Math courses in the last few years, you may be eligible to directly take Math 12 again. Contact any Math
Faculty member for advising.
10. I need to obtain a recent Canadian Math 12 credit, but I already know all the Math 12 topics very well. Is there an exam I can take to show that I know Math 12 so I won't need to take the course?
Yes. You can take the challenge exams for both Math0983 and Math0993. For more information see
Course Challenge
11. Which textbook do you use for Math 10 (Math 0751) or Math 11 (Math 0861/0871) or Math 12 (Math 0983/0993) ? Where can I buy it ahead of time?
You can buy Math textbooks from the VCC bookstore. See

12. Which of your courses are equivalent to Math 10, Math 11 and Math 12 ?
Math 10 corresponds to Math0750 and Math0751. Math 11 is equivalent to Math0861 and Math0871. You will need to take Math 0861 first, and then take Math 0871.
